Jell-O Flag 11/19/2009

Make one large box of red jell-O according to package directions in a clear rectangular baking dish. When almost set but not firm, remove from refrigerator and decorate as follows. Create the blue background for the “stars” by placing fresh blueberries side by side in a square in the top left corner. Make red stripes from strawberry halves laid end to end. White stripes are made from CoolWhip or whipped cream in a pastry bag (use whatever tip rocks your boat). Stars are made by using a small, starred tip on the pastry bag, and more CoolWhip. Fit as many as you can on the blueberry background while maintaining the look of individual stars. Refrigerate, covered, overnight. Optional: dissolve several envelopes Knox Unflavored gelatin in with the red jello to make what we used to call a “Knox Blox.” Pour mixture into greased rectangular dish. Allow to set. Remove from refrigerator, invert onto serving plate, decorate as above.
