Render several chopped slices of fatty bacon (the real stuff, not turkey bacon) or salt pork in a large pot.
Using fresh snap green beans, put green beans in the pot.
Add a TB sugar and one TSP salt
Pour BOILING water over beans to cover. Do not cover the pot. Cook on low until beans look caramelized. I usually cook them the day before all day and then reheat the next day.
